But it is. That 5090 card. I finally got around to installing it, and well, I didn't. It's about an inch too high.

Now I did do a dimension check, but I failed to account for how much space Dell used between the mother board and the bottom of the case for cable management.

So it looks like my next project is going to be building a computer the damned thing will fit in.

Note, this post is a lot shorter by the simple fact I'm not doing any cussing in it.
 
On one hand you have my sympathies, sucks when components either don't fit (extra slot for the 2080ti) or don't work. On the other hand, screw you and your 5090, LOL :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, it's a really expensive paperweight though so I'm going to have to build a machine around it. Memory is the main issue, I've got plenty of server DDR4 I can use if I can find a motherboard that will take it. I sure don't want to have to shell out for 128 GB DDR5 if I can help it.
 
As I think I've mentioned I have 3 workstations that run Windows 11, and 3 older ones that don't have the ability. Basically I replaced the older ones when Windows 10 was timing out, and I replaced them with ones that could run 11. Anyway, in theory there was nothing wrong with the old ones and they would be perfectly capable of running Linux. Except of course there is. I completely forgot one overheats when rendering, it's the second one I replaced (the first one is REALLY old). The third one is a dual processor with 32 GB of RDRAM. I must have gotten a bargain on it because there is no way 32 GB is enough when you consider each processor gets dedicated memory - effectively the machine is 16GB, which will not do for rendering. I'm going to see if I can transfer the memory from the one that overheats, it has 128 GB. Not that I really need four computers running, but I like to tinker.

Since I can't install that 5090 in any of them, the three I'm running have a 3090, a Quadro RTX 5000 (which was a really expensive card in it's day, that day has passed), and a Geoforce 2060 with 12 GB of DIMM. So not being able to crank up that 5090 is more of an annoyance at the moment than anything else.
 
On the ongoing saga of my 5090...

Bought the PC to go with it. I really didn't want to deal with building it myself, so I had Sirius Power PC do it.

With that GPU it is $5,900, I got a $3,400 credit for already having the GPU ;)

Nice! I am envious. Very hard for me to justify that kind of money for a PC. I have the money, but I just can't justify spending that much on a PC, especially with my other bills that might pop up and thinking of retiring in a few years. Who knows, in a couple of years, I might not have a PC is MS goes full subscription model unless I go Linux.
 
Fun fact, if you don't plan to game on it, you can get a $10 adapter and plug it into an NVMe slot. It's all PCI-e. Hm, I guess I should've told you that 2 weeks ago.

I looked at those, I didn't want the card outside the case though. The PC I'm getting provides a great platform for it, and who knows, I might get into gaming ;)
 
Speaking of the apparently cursed GPU, it's been seven weeks since I ordered the computer, SiriusPowerPC doesn't answer e-mails and is not good at returning phone calls and when they do, don't discuss the status of the order. Two other really miserable reviews stating the same thing showed up on Trustpilot in May, and I would point out I checked all this out before I ordered, everything was clean.

Sooo... it looks like I am going to be entering a dispute with Paypal tomorrow, if they don't get off their butt and either show me where the machine build is, or refund my money.

And obviously I ain't recommending them.

Cursed I tell ya, first the GPU grew too big and now it's not lettiing me get a machine for it.

I have an 8GB RTX3070 which suffices my gaming addiction. The only A.I. I've lately been using is Anthropic's Claude Sonnet to mod and work on my sites inside VS Code, and SUNO to create studio quality A.I. music. :D
 
An update:
1) Don't even contemplate buying a PC from SiriusPowerPC
2) Paypal buyer protection works. Got my money back

SiriusPowerPC never shipped, then lied about a computer being ready to ship when I started pressing them 10 weeks into it. I put in a chargeback request at Paypal on Friday, got the refund today (four business days) SiriusPowerPC never replied to them on the issue.

What it looks like is going on is the Website is supposed to feed a number of affiliated stores. What it looks like is happening is if you place the order with a nearby store, you get the PC, if you place it from the website, it never gets sent to a store. At least that's my impression. With the exception of taking the order, they don't respond to e-mails, don't answer the phone, and if you leave an irate enough message they call you back with excuses for why your PC hasn't shipped.

Stay clear.

Now I need to check out local shops for someone that can build the machine for me. Should have done that to start with. Oh well.
 
Shit fuck! How much was it? I usually custom build at home, but in 2023 my PC died after the fucking idiots at the "Geek Squad" buggered it up. It wouldn't even POST when I took back home. They claimed it worked. Should have tested it right there.

I'm very particular about brands and ended up getting a very high end HP "Envy" and thank God it had Amazon no credit check or interest monthly payments.

I put 5TB of storage in it, doubled the ram to 32GB, and added all new fans including CPU. Runs like a beast. :)
 
I had been custom building at home since about the dawn of the PC, the first one I built was a 386-SX, then a 486, a Pentium I, Pentium 2...

I stopped doing it myself because my fine co-ordination, eyesight, and balance are not good enough for it anymore. I limit myself to adding ram, expansion cards and hard drives, and I mean external bays.

The computer I ordered ran $2,670, and I was happy Paypal could claw it back.

I built my first rig in 2005 when I had some extra cash. It was a Pentium IV. Black aluminum alloy case. Not very good venting and it wouldn't even turn on the first time I tried. LOL

Before that there was this guy called Dr. Forbin (of Colossus) who would build me rigs out of his old shit all during the 90's. His house looked like a Borg hive. Cables, pieces of hardware, and monitors everywhere. LOL
