Australia to pass law on free speech

Yeah, I think every government has a bill in their pocket to force through when a national tragedy occurs. That's exactly how they got the PATRIOT Act through here, and it is equally as flawed. And they had that one ready to go for when the time came, just like this one.

You would think with all the push back against the UKs ban on free speech, other places would be taking notice, guess not. This is BS. There is NOTHING wrong with criticizing illegal immigration from any country, especially Islamic countries when you look at how the UK has been overrun., it needs to happen more often. Somebody is getting paid well to push these insane agendas.
You don't have to like Trump, but at least I don't have to worry about any of this while he is in office.

Funny she says the "liberals" are the party that stand up for freedom, free speech, religion and pro democracy. Does liberal mean something different in Australia? because the liberals here are anti all those things and would be all for this new law.

Well, this is how Wikipedia describes the Liberal party:

"The Liberal Party of Australia (LP) is the prominent centre-right to right-wing political party in Australia. It is considered one of the two major parties in Australian politics, the other being the Australian Labor Part (ALP)."

That makes sense then since the liberals/ democratic party here are to the left.
This sums up the party system here in the U.S.

Meanwhile, this politician is gaining popularity because she is all for the Australian values and free speech. Slight word of warning that it's about 40 minutes long ...

Sadly, this is quite correct of the situation in the UK. Free Speech, and with it the privacy of th eindividual, are no only alllowed if it is 'in the public interest' (ie, th eGovernment's interest). Now Westminster icontrols everything we do in our lives, apparently now even trying to extend to how we think and what we think and when we think it!
George Orwell's 1984 has finally come to pass in all its stiffling and frustrating glories!
Let's face it, and I know that other UK dwellers will back me up here, 'Free speech' in the UK is facing significant, compounding pressures from, new legislation, restrictive policing, and a prevailing "cancel culture," leading to a decline in international rankings for free expression. Over 50% of Britons have self-censored their political or social views due to fear of judgment or negative consequences.
More details can be foudn here if anyone is interested...

It's gotten to that point here as well. Gone are the days when you could disagree with a friend or family member on political or social issues and still get along

The difference between then and now is people are now are less likely to agree to disagree. They seem to take things a lot more personally and are more likely to make a mountain out of a molehill over trivial matters. Also, they're not smart enough to just let things go.

My family has found it's better to avoid discussing politics altogether to ensure we all get along. There was still a bit of ribbing between my dad and brother last Christmas - including a copy of Liz Cheney's book, Oath and Honor, he gave my brother as a gag gift - but he took it in stride.

I wish that was my family. My sister and me are on the same page, but my Mom (before she passed) gave me so much crap and would tell me things I knew were false and even though I tried to show her actual data to disprove some of the things she was believing, she wouldn't have it. I still have an aunt that will not let me in her house because of who I voted for, and what my political and social beliefs are, LOL

I have a neighbor that had a co worker take a sledgehammer to his truck because of the bumper sticker he had and the American flag flying in the bed of the truck, crazy unhinged people.

Sorry about your Mom... :(

Now, see, that's just inexcusable. Violence solves absolutely nothing. Give me a voting booth any day.

My next door neighbor had all kinds of paraphernalia in his yard during the last election, and I couldn't have cared less. I just thought, "Well, that's a bummer, but ok. To each their own." I respect his rights and mind my own business. We're not close, and I don't know him from Adam otherwise, but I have no qualms about exchanging pleasantries with him whenever we see each other outside our homes, whether we're coming or going.

Thanks man, she passed from Covid

I agree on the violence issue, but unfortunately that is the world we are in now. I try to educate people since I can't talk about anything if I am not knowledgeable myself, especially when they really have no clue on why they are voting other than party or what someone told them. I had a baker at one of our stores that was voting one way years ago. I asked her why, she said she was a democrat and the candidate was also. I asked if she knew about the persons policies, she didn't, so we sat there and looked up all their policies and she was blown away and changed her vote.
Same for a neighbor that had a sign for the non TX candidate in the last gov race in his yard. We looked up his policies and watched a few speeches and he threw the sign away, LOL
Unfortunately it's getting harder and harder to research things since there is so much bias in the media and social media now.

If you want to know what is going on I would recommend reddit. Regarding China for instance I subscribed to some anti and some pro China reddits. When it comes to news/politics there also are some reddits that managed to stay halfway neutral like https://www.reddit.com/r/anime_titties/ (Guess that has to do with their name 😁 )

I've run in to problems with Reddit. You will be surprised what it bans or blocks in posts! However it seems weird and random rather than deliberate censorship

I used to spend a lot of time on Reddit, can't imagine getting factual info there. Reminds more of YT comments which are full of misinformation, clueless opinions and bots.
