Otto's Weird Music Thread

To me it appears to be modeled after Little Big/Oliver Tree/Tommy Cash, but it is the same neck of the woods, and they do sport the Oliver Tree memorial bowl haircut in that.

We have a number of people equating "weird" music with "bad" music (whoever allowed Leonard Nimroy and William Shatner to sing should be shot).

Weird music to me means unusual, not "Stick an ice pick in my ear, I don't want to hear anymore".

There is some overlap I guess...
Now hold on a gosh darn minute, Leonard Nimoy singing a song about Bilbo Baggins is absolutely weird. One of the weirdest things I've ever seen. It is also bad, yes. As you said there's some overlap (a lot of overlap). But, if we were solely equating weird with bad someone would've posted Rascal Flats cover of Life is a Highway by now. Which is, if you haven't heard it, the worst song ever made.

Now on Oliver Tree (rest in peace), his music isn't really that weird. It's mostly depression pop. His music videos are however very weird. Moral of the story, weird is probably subjective I guess.

Frank Zappa, whose music most people would consider weird, produced some really intricate music when he was of a mind to. He produced an album for a guy named "Wild Man Fischer" Wild Man Fischer was absolutely, positively horrible. For some bizarre reason he had a following.

After Frank's death Gail Zappa refused to re-release the album saying it was a very poor example of Frank's work.

Have your ice pics at ready, this one's a stinker

Aaaaand it's stuck in my head. Anybody got a spare ice pick? Side note, this guy does have interesting vocals. Like he could probably make decent music with the right band. This is absolutely NOT it though.

Here's some weird music by modern composer Philip Glass.

However, unlike a lot of stuff featured on this thread, I do believe his compositions have more mystic talent that provokes an internal response in the listener...
